Leonard completed his articles in Meadow Lake under the direction of Raymond G. Cariou, Q.C. From 1980 to 1995, Leonard practiced law in partnership with a Meadow Lake law firm and in 1995, Leonard established Francis & Company as a sole practitioner. Leonard has extensive experience in the general practice of law including real estate law, purchase and sale of business, commercial and corporate law, wills and estates, civil litigation, and divorce and family law.

On December 28, 2006, Leonard was presented with a Queens Counsel designation in recognition of his contribution to the practice of law.
